How to bring your weight history from another app
Moving from Libra, Withings, Happy Scale or a spreadsheet? Weight Loss Tracking Buddy can import your past weigh-ins from a CSV file, free. Here's how.
Switching apps shouldn't mean starting your chart from scratch. Weight Loss Tracking Buddy can read your past weigh-ins from a CSV file, the plain spreadsheet format most weight apps can export. Importing is free.
1. Export from your old app
Look in your old app's settings for Export, Backup or Download data, and choose CSV if it offers a choice. Save the file to Files or iCloud Drive, or send it to yourself, so you can open it on your iPhone.
Weight Loss Tracking Buddy reads exports from apps such as Libra, Withings and Happy Scale, its own CSV export, and a spreadsheet you've kept yourself. For a spreadsheet, save it as CSV with a column of dates and a column of weights, each with a heading such as Date and Weight.
2. Import it
- Open Settings, then Data.
- Tap Import Weigh-ins and choose your file.
- Check what it found. The app works out which columns hold the dates and weights from their headings, the unit from the heading or the figures, and which way round the dates are written.
If the file doesn't say whether it's kilograms or pounds, or its dates could be read either way round (is 03/04 the 3rd of April or the 4th of March?), the app asks you to choose, and to check the latest weight and the first and last dates look right.
- Tap Import.
What gets imported
- One weigh-in a day. If your file has several on one day, the latest is kept.
- Your own days come first. A day you've already logged in Weight Loss Tracking Buddy keeps its weigh-in, so importing twice won't double anything.
- Unreadable rows are skipped, such as a blank line or a weight that can't be right.
Your imported weigh-ins sync to your other devices through iCloud like any you log yourself, and show in your charts, your goal's progress and the widgets straight away.
Taking your data with you
It works the other way too. Settings, then Data, then Export as CSV writes your weigh-ins, food, measurements and fasts as CSV files you can open in any spreadsheet. Back Up to a File saves everything, photos included if you like, to restore on another device.
If your scales save to Apple Health, you may not need to import at all: see how to get your smart scale's weigh-ins into Weight Loss Tracking Buddy.
