How to get your smart scale's weigh-ins into Weight Loss Tracking Buddy
Weight Loss Tracking Buddy reads weigh-ins from Apple Health, so a smart scale whose app saves your weight to Health can feed it without typing. Here's how to set it up.
Weight Loss Tracking Buddy doesn't connect to scales itself. It reads your weigh-ins from Apple Health, which most smart scales' own apps can write to. Set up the two links once, scale app to Health and Health to Weight Loss Tracking Buddy, and every weigh-in on your scales shows in your charts without typing.
Reading weigh-ins from Health is part of WLTB Pro.
1. Let your scale's app save to Apple Health
Open the app that came with your scales and look in its settings for Apple Health or Health. Turn it on, and when iOS asks what it can write, allow Weight.
To check it's working, step on the scales, wait for the reading to reach the scale's app, then open the Health app and look at Weight, under Body Measurements. Your weigh-in should be there, with your scale's app as its source.
2. Let Weight Loss Tracking Buddy read them
In Weight Loss Tracking Buddy, open Settings, then Apple Health. Under Read from Health, choose how Weigh-ins from Health should show:
- Fill the Gaps shows a weigh-in from Health only on days you haven't weighed in in the app. Pick this if you sometimes log by hand and sometimes use the scales.
- Alongside Yours shows every weigh-in from Health, on every day, beside your own.
iOS asks for permission the first time. Allow Weight.
What happens next
- New weigh-ins arrive on their own. Health tells the app when a new weigh-in is saved, even when it's closed, so your widgets and Apple Watch pick it up without opening the app.
- They count everywhere. The Overview, your charts, your goal's progress and the widgets all include them, and the latest weigh-in from either source is your weight now.
- They stay Health's. Logs, under Weigh-ins, lists them with their source. To change or delete one, do it in the Health app or your scale's app.
- They stay on that iPhone. What the app reads from Health is never saved to iCloud or sent anywhere, so turn Weigh-ins from Health on separately on an iPad. Your iPhone passes them to your Apple Watch.
Saving the other way
The same page can save what you log to Health: turn on Weigh-ins and Food under Save to Health. Each weigh-in you log in the app goes to Health, and changes or deletions follow it. The app never reads its own weigh-ins back, so they won't appear twice.
If weigh-ins don't appear
- In the Health app, check the weigh-in is under Weight. If it isn't, the problem is between the scales and their app.
- In the Settings app, go to Privacy & Security, then Health, choose Weight Loss Tracking Buddy, and make sure reading Weight is allowed.
- In Weight Loss Tracking Buddy, check Weigh-ins from Health isn't set to Off, and that WLTB Pro is active.
